For years, birth control has been assumed to be the woman’s responsibility. Taking a pill or even weathering an intrauterine device has been thought to be normal and expected, while men aren’t held to any similar responsibility. That may all change in the upcoming future, because a male contraceptive device may be just around the corner.

The equipment, commercially available ultrasound machines, were used to isolate a specific power that lowers the rats’ sperm count. Scientists found that by rotating the high-frequency ultrasound around the rats’ erhm… “male parts,” they can kill most of the sperm-generating cells.

Scientists have also noted that this might be a way to non-invasively sterilize pets and help control the animal population.

But like all new products, more tests are required before anything will be available to use for contraception in humans, as it is unknown how long the effects last and if multiple treatments would be safe.
